Terms of Service

What you can expect from The Offlines, and what it expects from you. Making an account means agreeing to this.

The game is in beta

The Offlines is unfinished and under active development. Cases may change, features may appear and disappear, the game may be unavailable, and data may be reset while we are still building. Do not treat anything here as permanent. We will warn you before a reset that would lose your finished cases, but we cannot promise your progress will survive every change.

Your account

  • Use a real email address you control, so we can reach you about your account.
  • One account per person.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
  • You must be 16 or older.

Tell us at support@jointheofflines.com if you think someone else has your account.

Credits

Taking a case costs a credit. During the beta, credits are granted, not sold, and have no cash value. They are a limit on play, not a purchase. If we ever sell credits, we will update these terms and tell you before it takes effect, and nothing here obliges you to buy anything.

How to use it

Play the game. Beyond that, please do not:

  • Use scripts, bots or automated clients to play, or to send traffic to the game.
  • Try to break, overload or probe the service, or get at data that is not yours.
  • Work around the case, the clock, or the credit system.
  • Try to make the characters produce content that is illegal, or that targets a real person.
  • Resell access to the game or share your account with others.

Trying to get the characters to reveal their instructions is not something we will ban you for. It is a mystery game; curiosity is the point. It will mostly just spoil your own case.

The towns are fiction

Every town, character, incident and conversation in The Offlines is generated by AI. The people are invented. Any resemblance to a real person, place or event is accidental and means nothing. Characters can be wrong, can contradict themselves, and can say things nobody wrote or intended. Nothing a character says is advice, fact, or a statement from us.

What you write

Your notes and your messages to characters remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them so the game can work, which includes sending conversation text to an AI provider to generate replies. See the Privacy Policy for the detail. We do not publish what you write, and we do not use it to advertise to you.

Ending it

You can stop at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we have to shut the game down. If we close your account without cause, and you have paid for anything, we will refund the unused part.

No warranty, and limits on liability

The Offlines is provided as it is, without warranty. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of faults. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data or lost play time. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here removes the consumer rights you have where you live.

Changes to these terms

We will update this page as the game grows, and the date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will email you before it takes effect. Continuing to play after that means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which The Offlines is established, and disputes will be heard by its courts. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live.
