Who is responsible

The Offlines is an independent project, reachable at support@jointheofflines.com. If you have a question about your data, that address reaches a person.

What we collect

Three kinds of information, and nothing else.

• Your account. Your email address and the display name you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We never see your Google password. If you register with a password instead, it is stored only as a cryptographic hash by our authentication provider, and we cannot read it.
• Your play. The cases assigned to you, your session timing, every message you exchange with the characters in a case, the notes you write, the evidence you mark, the accusations you make, and your credit balance and its history.
• Technical records. Diagnostic records of each AI model call the game makes on your behalf, including timing, token counts and cost, plus errors. These keep the game running and its costs visible.

There are no advertising trackers, no analytics vendors and no third-party marketing pixels on this site.

Why we collect it

• To create your account and sign you in.
• To run a case: keep the clock, remember your conversations, hold your notes, and score an accusation.
• To let you return to a finished case in the archive.
• To send you the emails the account needs, such as confirming your address or resetting your password.
• To find bugs, control model costs, and make the game better.

The legal basis for the first four is performing the contract you enter into by making an account. The last is our legitimate interest in operating a working product, and you can object to it at any time.

Who else sees it

The Offlines runs on a small number of services. Each sees only what it needs to do its job.

• Supabase stores the database, your account and generated case images.
• Vercel hosts and serves the site.
• OpenRouter routes the AI model calls. This one matters most: when you talk to a character, the text of that conversation is sent to a model provider to generate the reply. Do not type anything into a conversation that you would not want processed by a third-party AI provider.
• Resend delivers account emails, so it handles your email address.
• Google receives a sign-in request only if you choose to sign in with Google.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else. Some of these providers operate servers outside your country, including in the United States.

Cookies

Only the ones the site cannot work without. They keep you signed in and refresh your session as you move between pages. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner to dismiss.

How long we keep it

Your account and play history are kept while your account exists. Ask us to delete your account and we remove it, along with your conversations, notes and accusations. Technical records that no longer identify you may be kept longer to understand cost and reliability over time.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you the rights below. We extend them to everyone, because splitting people by geography would be worse.

• Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Have your account and its data deleted.
• Object to our using your data to improve the game.
• Complain to your national data protection authority.

Security

Connections are encrypted. Access to the database is restricted per player, so one player cannot read another’s sessions, conversations or notes. No system is perfect; if we ever discover a breach affecting you, we will tell you.

Age

The Offlines is not intended for anyone under 16. If you believe a child has made an account, write to us and we will remove it.

Changes

The game is in beta and this page will change with it. The date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will email you rather than quietly update this page.
